Farewell to
Farringdon House
It was with mixed emotions
that on the 4th January 2005 210 Squadron said goodbye to
its home, Farringdon House. The old TA centre, built in
the 1930's, reached the end of its life and has now been demolished. It is to be
replaced by a brand new building, scheduled for completion in
2006.

Farringdon House started life
as home to the 31st (City of London Rifles) Anti-Aircraft
Battalion, Royal Engineers (Headquaters, 324th and 325th
Companies) which re-badged to the Royal Artillery in 1940 and
served during the Second World War as a searchlight
regiment. In 1947 the 566th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment
RA was reconstituted into the TA having its Headquarters at
Farringdon House and continued in various guises until 1961
when it became part of the 3rd Battalion, The Queen's Royal
Surrey Regiment, this transferring to The Queen's Regiment in
1966. The last unit of this line to be based at
Farringdon House was 'D' (Tangier) Company 6th/7th (Volunteer)
Battalion The Queen's Regiment which was disbanded in 1992
when The Queen's Regiment became part of The Princess of
Wales's Royal Regiment. It was at this time that
Farringdon House was handed over to 210 Transport Squadron.
210 Squadron is an
important part of London's Territorial Army
(TA) forces. As a unit, it provides vital logistic
support in times of war and in peacetime, as well as normal
training, its men and women
are able to volunteer for duties abroad. 210 Squadron is
one of London's top TA units - it offers you the chance to learn new skills, meet
new friends, have fun and get paid for it.
