GMP Cricket

Parts overview

It took about nine months to collect enough components to make one helicopter. The picture shows the contents of what looks like just one kit, but in fact it is the culmination of at least six different second-hand machines. All six had been bought from different online auction sites.

The only non-original parts used were the wooden radio tray, the canopy, fuel tank, primary drive belt, ball links and the new bearings throughout. New nuts, bolts and washers were also used throughout.

There is a picture in the back of the GMP manual that shows all the parts required to build a Cricket, here is my rendition to ensure that no parts had been forgotten before building commenced.

The aluminium components all required a lot of cleaning and polishing. I like the brushed aluminium effect so this was applied to the rotor head, main frame, undercarriage legs and bearing blocks. The skids, boom and clutch bell were highly polished. For each part I choose the best I could find amongst the second hand machines acquired for this project.
