Hirobo Bell UH-1B

Motor drive assembly

The engine is run on a test stand for about 20 minutes, this allows for an easy run-in and familiarity with the carburettor.

The standard plastic fan was replaced with a Quick UK one, it has been machined from solid and runs true, is more efficient and runs quieter. In the foreground the Hirobo clutch spanner can be seen, during assembly it is temporarily bolted to the clutch mount so that the prop nut can be tightened up with ease without the need to hold the crankshaft stationary.

The standard clutch was replaced with a Quick UK heavy duty one on the grounds of reliability. A comparison between the two can be seen during the Motor drive assembly for the Schweizer 300.

Having a dial indicator to measure run out is advisable. Here the engine is mounted in the test stand and in the picture run out is being measured at the top of the clutch. It has already been checked at the bottom of the fan and the top of the clutch mount.

The fuel tank assembly is straight forward and needs no modification.
